About this project

The Project involved the survey of one of the Manchester Airport Carpark of approx. 40,000sqm. The purpose of the survey was to confirm the locations of the existing utilities using a Geophysical method.

Survey requirements

As part of a refurbishment plan to develop Manchester Airport car parks, Eurovia mandated Murphy Geospatial to carry out a Geophysical survey to gather GPR data to determine the location of existing services in the area. Data obtained would be compared to the previous EML surveys and STATS.

Survey specifications

The total area to be surveyed was approximately 40,000sqm. The survey was carried out in over 3 days, using a multi-channel GPR antenna, a IDS Stream C system with a 600MHz central frequency coupled to a Leica Total Station for live georeferencing.

The ground was mostly made of gravels which was made even for us during the survey, making the survey easier for our surveyors on site.

Findings

GPR data was post-processed back to the office using GRED HD software. GPR anomalies identified during the processing were highly correlated to the EML results provided by the client. Most of the services of the area were detected by the GPR survey and presented in a 3D CAD drawing overlaid by the STATS.
