Project summary

Murphy Geospatial UK Ltd carried out a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) survey on an area of the floor slab, using ground-penetrating radar at Cartmel House, on behalf of SCS JV. The client needed to determine the presence and location of services within the screed.

The brief

A trial survey was undertaken to determine the presence of services, during which services were detected running in the screed layer. The full survey of the slab’s nominated area was therefore undertaken to locate and map the services within the screed layer.

The challenges

The site was a large warehouse with no existing records. The team was required to determine the best method to cover the site and provide extensive information within a day.

Our work

The survey was undertaken using a GPR system. The area was scanned on a regular orthogonal grid with scanlines at 0.3m intervals to locate the services within the screed layer. A live mark-up was also realised onsite, where possible to do so. All detected services were marked up on the slab with spray paint.

Results

GPR was successful in detecting services within the screed layer. Results obtained were plotted directly onsite and onto a CAD Drawing.
