The team at Murphy Geospatial is pleased to announce that our client, JCA Architects, has been shortlisted for two categories in the 2023 Building and Architect of the Year awards. Competing for awards in Best Use of Digital Technology and Multi-Discipline Collaboration Achievement, the project submitted was delivered in collaboration with Murphy Geospatial. It’s a great honour to be included on such a list of industry talent and we look forward to seeing how the results pan out.
JCA Architects are an impressive, multi-disciplinary practice based in Ireland. They are producing contemporary designs that are functional, sustainable and economical, which makes them the ideal collaborators for Murphy Geospatial. We have a shared vision for a future where digital construction takes the lead in creating spaces that work better for our World.
The collaborative project began when JCA Architects approached Murphy Geospatial for our expertise and technical support. They had been tasked with managing and designing the reinstatement of the historic Belfast Bank Buildings, occupied by Primark, which was damaged during a fire. The Design team led by JCA Architects required the space to be accurately captured and monitored to assess the building conditions. The installation of a system was also needed to provide warning of any structural movement in real time.
Our teams reacted quickly and mobilised to the site in September 2018, only a month after the terrible fire occurred. The initial project scope demanded a full range of Geospatial Services, including:
- Topographical Surveys
- Point Cloud
- Drone and UAV Surveys
- LOD400 BIM Model
- 2D Sectional Profiles
- Orthorectified Elevations
- Installation of Tilt Monitoring & Wind Speed Monitoring
Working alongside JCA Architects, we updated and verified the Site Datum Network to be used for all Geospatial requirements and carried out crucial structural monitoring of the remaining building facades.
The installation was completed in a matter of hours and was performed without damage to the iconic historical structure. As a result of our advanced technological input, data was available immediately after installation was complete. The online portal allowed collaboration of the design and management team, keeping them informed of the impact of the ongoing structural works.
Taking place on Thursday 20th April at The Crowne Plaza in Dublin, the Building and Architect of the Year Awards is an annual industry-renowned event celebrating Ireland’s leading architects and their achievements. It was founded and organised by BusinessRiver, a network solution for thousands of Irish businesses.
