Murphy Geospatial provided the architectural design team with a full underground utility package identifying the locations of underground services using a number of techniques reducing risk and improving the overall project confidence. CCTV inspection delivered a structural and operational report highlighting the defects noted in the drainage infrastructure.
Sweeney Architects requested Murphy Geospatial to support their subsurface investigation needs. As part of the utility package, Murphy Geospatial carried out a site verification survey consisting of slit trenches verifying the locations of the utility assets
One of the slit trenches located in a softscaping area used by residents for recreational activities had to be protected, the use geotextile membranes helped avoid any damages to the surface.
Concerns raised that concrete segments that were not identified during previous surveys – due to the congestion of services – could increase the likelihood of a strike if the segments moved. In this case, we used hand dig assistance where it was needed.
An on-site presentation of the underground utility dataset with the client allowed us to interact and demonstrate our knowledge and expertise, providing recommendations where slit trenches were required to reduce any engineering difficulties that could have been encountered if not explored through excavations.
The site visit identified the locations for the intrusive surveys and helped decide on the methodology needed. Excavations were carried out with the conventional use of an excavator as it was agreed this was the most realistic approach, considering that each trench needed to exceed great depths.
At the start, the client placed an emphasis on detection, location and verifying the whereabouts of rising main due to its importance in the design. The hierarchy approach encountered the anomalies in this project at an early stage. The final survey being a site verification helped us to reduce risk as the project develops.
A number of buried manholes were exposed and finding the location of the rising mains and storm lines meant we were able to capture the data effectively and analyse the findings to determine the routes needed to incorporate additional services.
